If you are planning to come through Heemskerk station, you need to let us know () in advance as there is no public transport from there to Slot Assumburg. When you
arrive at Beverwijk you can take a bus # 74 and get out at bus stop “Jan van Kuikweg”,
then walk 200 meters to the Castle, now youth hostel Assumburg.
A taxi is also available at Beverwijk station.
How to obtain a ticket for the train:
You could buy your train ticket at a machine, but we’d recommend finding a human being at TICKETS & SERVICE desk in a bank of windows not very far from where you’ll emerge. You’ll ask for a one way ticket to Beverwijk or to Heemskerk, second class. If you want first class you need to ask for this but second class is fine, perfectly comfortable and of course cheaper.
You’ll be able to pay with MasterCard, Visa, or in cash with Euros.
You will NOT be able to buy your ticket on the train, they’ll charge you with an enormous penalty.
How to obtain a ticket for the bus:
If you travel from Rotterdam you’ll need a
‘throw away public transport chip card’ (a temporary OV- card) which you can buy there and then at TICKETS & SERVICE desk in a bank of windows not very far from where you’ll emerge. Other means of paying are not possible any more.
In other cities you can buy what we a call a
strippenkaart, a paper card with a number of ‘strips’ on it which are counted when you travel a certain distance. A
‘throw away public transport chip card’ (a temporary OV-card) will also be welcomed.
